On 2 April, Health Secretary Matt Hancock announced a “five pillar” plan for testing people for the virus, with the aim of conducting 100,000 tests a day by the end of April. Hancock was speaking at the daily government briefing after ending his seven-day period of isolation.[143] At 8pm on 2 April the UK gave another national round of applause for NHS staff and other key workers.
